Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius: Lithuanian Government is ready to continue working closely together with EIB

On Friday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius met with Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), and welcomed the successful cooperation.

The Head of Government thanked the EIB for the loan to cover the shortfall of co-funding for projects implemented from the EU Structural Funds in Lithuania in 2014-2020. “I am certain that we will continue working closely together in the future”, said the Prime Minister.

The EIB President commended Lithuania’s initiatives and achievements in structural reforms, particularly in energy.

In May, the Ministry of Finance signed a loan agreement for up to 1.3 billion with the EIB to be used for co-financing of projects implementable under Lithuania’s EU Funds investment programme for 2014-2020 and Lithuanian rural development programme. The 2014-2020 financial framework will allocate 6.8 billion euros for Lithuania.

The Prime Minister informed the EIB President about Lithuania’s intention to continue to invest in liquefied natural gas terminal project development, and asked the President about EIB plans to continue to invest in the European fund for modernization of buildings. The EIB is the European Union’s financial institution financing investment projects for sustainable EU development. The European Union Member States are EIB’s shareholders.
