The Seimas has congratulated the elected President of the Unites States of America Donald Trump by adopting a respective Resolution.
In the Resolution, the Seimas recognises the role of the United States of America in and the personal contribution of the President of this country to ensuring security and stability in Europe and throughout the world and noted the sincere long-term historical bonds between the people of Lithuania and of the United States of America. Gratitude is expressed to the USA and US Presidents for the continued and determined policy of non-recognition of the Baltic States’ occupation.
Undertaking to make every effort in strengthening the strategic cooperation with the United States of America, to increase national defence spending so that at least two percent of the GDP would be spent as early as 2018, and to ensure further increase in defence spending, the Seimas sincerely congratulates the elected President of the United States of America Donald Trump and wishes him every success in this position of responsibility and in implementation of international and domestic policy commitments.
The Resolution Congratulating the Elected President of the Unites States of America Donald Trump was adopted by 88 votes in favour to none against and 8 abstentions.
