Seimas ratified the agreement with the US on cooperation in science, technology and innovation

Press release, 18 December 2018

The Seimas ratified the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the United States of America for Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation, which was signed in Vilnius on 25 June 2018.

The Agreement will replace the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the United States of America for Scientific and Technological Cooperation signed in Vilnius on 22 June 2009, which expired in 2015.

The ratification of the Agreement will provide a legal basis for a more effective engagement of Lithuanian and American researchers in bilateral research projects and will promote the mobility of Lithuanian and American researchers and their cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. The Agreement will facilitate the entry and exit of researchers and scientific equipment, as well as sharing of information and data. The Agreement is also designed to cut customs duties applicable to imported and exported materials and equipment intended for research.

Once the Agreement comes into effect, the Research Council of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology will have the ability to renew funding for joint research projects and other joint activities related to research and innovation.
