The late US Senator John McCain was commemorated at the Seimas

On Tuesday, 26 March 2019, at 1 p.m., Emanuelis Zingeris, Signatory to the Act of Independence of Lithuania, Chair of the Seimas Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with the United States of America and the founder of the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy, opened a photo exhibition in the Stained Glass Gallery, Building 1 of the Seimas, to commemorate the late US Senator John McCain. VIP attendees to the event included Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, and Anne Hall, Ambassador of the United States of America to Lithuania.

It is symbolic that the opening of the exhibition coincides with the 15th anniversary of Lithuania’s NATO membership.

As one of the most active supporters of the cause of the Baltic States in Washington D.C., Senator McCain made a tremendous political impact to the security and liberation of the Baltic States from the Soviet dictatorship. His merits to Lithuania were widely acknowledged and appreciated and he received a number of Lithuania’s state awards.

The exhibition rekindles the memories of the most important visits paid by Senator McCain to Lithuania as well as his meetings with Lithuanian representatives in the US and in the framework of the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy.

The exhibition consists of photographs by Olga Posaškova (Office of the Seimas), Robertas Dačkus (Office of the President), Adomas Mickevičius (Office of the Government), Martynas Ambrazas, Ludo Segers, Juozas Valiušaitis, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, US Embassy in Lithuania, and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the United States of America and to the United Mexican States.

Senator John McCain succumbed to a dire illness and passed away on 25 August 2018.

The exhibition to commemorate Senator McCain will be staged in the Stained Glass Gallery from 25 to 29 March 2019.
