The 8th International Congress of Belarusian Studies starts in Vilnius

On September 27-29, the 8th International Congress of Belarusian Studies (ICBS), the single largest Belarusian academic event in the world, both in terms of the number of participants and the diversity of research areas, takes place in Vilnius. The European Humanities University (EHU) serves as the main academic partner of the event.

The 8th ICBS takes place under the patronage of Vilnius City Municipality. The Congress is funded by the Research Council of Lithuania, Konrad Adenauer Foundation and others. More than 550 scholars representing 14 research fields take part in the event. Among venues of the 8th ICBS are EHU Campus, Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences, and the St Mary of Consolation Church.

  • The official opening and plenary of the Congress are scheduled to take place on September 27 at 2 pm in the St Catherine’s Church (30 Vilniaus Str.);
  • The Ceremony of presenting ICBS Awards is scheduled for September 28 at 7 pm, taking place at the Vilnius Town Hall (31 Didžioji Str.).

The Congresses of 2011-2016 were held in Kaunas under the auspices of the Vytautas Magnus University. The 7th Congress of 2017 was held in Warsaw at the Collegium Civitas. Due to technical issues the 8th Congress was postponed to take place in September 2019.

The Organizing Committee of the 8th ICBS consists of the Institute of Political Studies “Political Sphere”, Institute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Vytautas Magnus University, and EHU.
